Book Description:

Everyone has something to hide--especially high school juniors Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna. Spencer covets her sister's boyfriend. Aria's fantasizing about her English teacher. Emily's crushing on the new girl at school. Hanna uses some ugly tricks to stay beautiful. But they've all kept an even bigger secret since their friend Alison vanished. How do I know? Because I know everything about the bad girls they were, the naughty girls they are, and all the dirty secrets they've kept. And guess what? I'm telling. ----A

A quote:

When someone covets something they desire and lust over it. Usually it's something they can't have.

Any thoughts:

Surprising, but I actually quite like it. In fact, I love it. I’ve seen the previews from the Pretty Little Liars show on ABC Family but never gotten around to watch it. I thought it looked...blah, nothing special. A while later, I read a review by Melissa at I Swim For Oceans. I was convinced enough to go try and read the book. And then now, voila! I love it! See, this is what happens when you judge things on their appearance -- you miss something good. I’ve clearly learned my lesson.

All four girls have something big to hide. Before their separation, Alison was the one person who they could confide in, the all-powerful leader in the group. But that was also before she disappeared. Now, in junior year high school, the girls have been getting mysterious emails and messages about their secrets which each girl all shared with Alison alone. And they’re all signed by “A”.

In the very beginning, all girls were introduced together. It made it hard to distinguish them from one another, but the story then follows each girl after their separation, making it much easier. There was never a dull moment. Whether it is a steamy gossip or a shocking revelation or a hyped-up party, I was all ears (erm...eyes). There is always something happening to each girl, with enough suspense for me to breathe. I was so, so curious to discover who “A” is. Is it Alyson -- the girl who was claimed to be missing for a long time, the only one who knew all of the girls’ secrets and would never dare tell anyone? Or is it someone else entirely? Well, I don’t know. I haven’t found out yet, which is why I must read the next book in the (long) series immediately. I can totally see why this can be addicting!
